Where I Wrote My First Book

My first book, Glass Bricks, launches April 27, 2021 at 7pm – Winnipeg time. It’s an online Zoom webinar launch through McNally Robinson Booksellers, and will be on YouTube. The beauty of an online launch is that you can be there no matter where you are in the world. So, if you’re interested, you can scroll down to the end of this post for the registration link.

Today, I’m sharing older photos that show where I wrote the book—in the office that is in what should be the dining area of my apartment. Part of the reason I’m doing this is because I’m too tired to come up with anything else, ha, ha.

The whole process of getting a book out into stores is a long one. Ideas, drafts, sharing, critiques, revisions, submitting to publishers, rejection, self-doubt, acceptance by publisher, fear, revisions, edits, revision, photo selection, revisions, self-doubt, copy editing, book design, marketing, social media stuff, self-doubt, selecting readings for launches, etc, etc.

Here are some odd shots of my office taken after dark.

Here are some abstract shots of my desk area, as seen reflected in the office window at night.

Sometimes the view out my office window can be distracting.

I sometimes sit out on my balcony to write.

When I look down from the balcony I can see the recycle bins where I put shredded old drafts of writing.

I like a plain round clock. Here are two versions of a photo of the clock above my desk.

Here are a bunch of my old writing journals.

The basket on the left holds copies of the pieces I’ve published in literary journals and anthologies. The bin on the right holds writing resource books and articles.

I’m now working on my next book, a flash fiction novella. What are you up to?

My book is out and now available worldwide in/through your local bookstores or from https://atbaypress.com/books/detail/glass-bricks. Official publication date is April 27, 2021.

  1. Fascinating post, great photos. Would have loved to attend the launch, but it seem 7 pm Winnipeg time is 2 am here in France! Hope it goes well, and many congratulations on ‘Glass Bricks’!
